So no surprise when we see the growing popularity of home entertainment. With the DVR, On-Demand, and Pay-Per-View is now easier than ever to enjoy a nice night at home. You think that video rental stores like Blockbuster are thriving in this bad economy. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
When Netflix Launched in 1999 changed the form of rent and watched movies. For one flat monthly fee to have access to the Netflix Web site, where you can choose the movies to be sent home in prepaid envelopes. The elimination of any need or reason to make a trip to your local video store. Because of this new trouble free and inexpensive method of Blockbuster movie rentals has been feeling the heat.
When I went to the video store and rent a movie, if not return in time to be charged a late fee. With Netflix's pricing strategy and no time limit on how long they can keep a car, customers do not always another reason to use the Blockbuster.
Blockbuster did not go down with a fight though. Blockbuster has adopted a "no fee will be late" in politics there are retail stores. Well … something. If you rent a DVD holds more than 5-days after its due date, Blockbuster will automatically deduct the cost of retail for the DVD directly from your bank account. It was now clear that was not enough to compete with the fast growing Netflix. So then decided to take Blockbuster front.
In August 2004, Blockbuster launched a similar online DVD rental service. It worked the same way as Netflix is required, but with the stores Blockbuster gave less than an advantage in Netflix. Instead of returning the DVD and wait a day or two with a new, Blockbuster gave him the option of returning the movie to your retail store a new DVD right then and not without cost. Using the advantage of its stores, Blockbuster has made its presence as one of the two major online the DVD rental services in the country.
Netflix had an answer. In 2007, Netflix offers its customers the option to watch movies directly on your computer. Than already use their computers for what I wanted Pickout DVDs to be sent home, so it makes sense to offer selected titles to view free on your computer without having to wait for the DVD by mail. Netflx dealt another blow to the principles of Blockbuster this year when it signed an agreement with giant video games from Microsoft. That allows any Xbox 360 owners to synchronize your Xbox Live account with your Netflix account. Now you can put any movie of your Netflix queue directly to your Xbox 360 to watch on your TV.
With thousands of titles Netflix has available to every day of his client, who has made it almost impossible for Blockbuster to compete. By Not to mention the new RedBox kiosks that seem to be popping up everywhere. RedBox are small kiosks that are placed in local supermarkets and pharmacies (usually in form of a box office hit), which offers newly released DVD's for a dollar a night. Blockbuster's new releases are $ 4.99 for 2-nights.
Due to overwhelming pressure from Netflix, and RedBox, Blockbuster was forced to close 960 of its 3700 retail stores this year. Nobody knows how long they can resist Blockbuster. I guess it can not be much longer.
